Double...

These are two of my favourite shots from a roll of double exposure film.
Why double? Partly because its a chance thing. Out of a roll of 24 you get some really shit and some really unique. Chance in art is often considered to derate the value of what has been created and its validity. But allow me to explain.
I shot the entire roll to begin with of underexposed textures. I then repeated the process with underexposed city and street scapes. Underexposed to guarantee that the second exposure makes some effect on the image that doesnt just turn the entire frame white.
I also looked at this project as a way to further my understanding of what actually happens when light hits emulsion. The whole concept of the second exposure being strongest in the areas that where shadow in the first exposure, that white areas in the first shot wont be as affected by the second.
I realised this is much like looking at your reflection in a train window from the inside. As things pass by you see sections of yourself at various levels of clarity, plae skin showing through when passing over dark things like thick bushes and fading away when passing a white wall.

Yes this still may be considered art by chance but to put it metaphorically it is an educated guess instead of just a guess.
